DIMENSIONS BACKWARDS

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello! In "select columns" in GL, Purchase Invoice, Sales Invoice, etc, that 2 dimensions are switched.  For example, the values for Dimension 1 belong to Dimension 2 and vise versa.  When you select them under "lines" and "dimension" it's correct, but when you try to do the "column select" and put in the value that way, it's backwards.  Does anyone have a fix for that?  My consultant has never seen it and doesn't know what to do to fix it.   Thanks!

Sounds strange. Check with your consultant what are the captions on those dimensions that are used in the page you refer to. Are they correct?

Thank you for your answer.  They are set up correctly.  The only place they are backwards is when I use them in "choose columns" setup.   The weird part is for example: Dimension "Dept" if you select the value through Cntrl+Shift+D on the line, you can select the correct value, and it even shows up on the line correctly.  But if you were to select it from the drop down under the column "Dept", it's not there.  All the values belong to Dimension "Area" (for example).  It's very strange.  Trying to work around it but it would have been easier if I could have just used it as a column.  I shouldn't have to "work around".  Seems like it's just a programming issue.  It's pointing to the wrong values.  My consultant's suggestion is to make up 2 new dimensions.

I suppose it is just the Captions of the fields are mixed, e.g. due to some translation or customization issue, or even they were incorrectly named in the setup. Go to ***/Departments/Administration/Application Setup/Financial Management/Dimensions, open dimension list and try to rename them as needed if they are mixed there - would it result in a correct display?
