Inventory Dimension Cleanup

Hi,

Inventory dimension is getting bigger in size this is due to creation of shipments. Currently, we're using Warehouse Management Module of AX 2012 R3 which add additional inventory dimension onto the table whenever there is a shipment record that is created and created containers - [WHSCONTAINERTABLE]. Is it possible to reduced the amount of inventdim table?

    What impact is the size of the InventDim table having? If none, does it matter?

    If you have some performance problems, are you sure it's the InventDim table that is responsible?

    There is a cleanup job for UNUSED InventDimIds. It's the first job mentioned here:

    Hi Gepoy,

    Every customer environment is unique. The last customer I have that is live with Warehouse management (they are not using Containers) has over 2 million records in InventDim (they are running Inventory and Warehouse cleanup jobs).

    There is a White paper 'Performance considerations for warehouse management' here:

    It talks about the impact of the warehouse module. Whilst most of the talk is around Inventory transactions, it also refers to the InventDim table.

    In summary, I don't think you can safely delete 'old' InventDimIds, only unused ones via the cleanup job. And if it's having no impact, then ignore it.
