RE: Connect to NAV Server by Windows Client through internet?

Connecting to NAV server via windows client OR web client depends upon your own specific requirements. Both the clients are equally capable of working with user's ease.

Although, web client has some limitations which you can check to in this link. msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh168959(v=nav.90).aspx

If the user machines are physically located at the server's physical location then it is better that you go with the windows client, whereas, if the user machines are present on various physical locations different from the server's physical location then web client can be used. (And again, this depends upon your own specific requirements)

    Adiika,

Currently if you have both the options in hand then go with Windows Client. There's no as such limitation over here but you will feel this in Web Client. Though some limitations has been sorted out with new enhanced features introduced in the NAV 2016 Web Client but still limitations exist over there. So go with windows Client as a level of performance too exist between these too.

Ok So you are unable to configure your Windows Client. Can you please answer some of my question

    1. Database Server and Application Server are installed on the Same server.

2.Different Clients that are trying to access this are on the same domain or different?

Or Else can you please tel how you have configured your Windows Client and where you have installed NAV and SQL, or else there is some specific error that you are getting?

1.Nav Server 2016+SQL Server Enterprise 2014 on same computer ( Windows 7 Ultimate)

Install Type: Cutome (Client+server+Web Client+Administrator Tools)

2.Local Computer (windows 7 Ultimate 32bit) : This computer is in local network and connects by web client without any problem.I installed NAV Windows client 2016 from DVD Media and configure as below:

      Server : 192.168.1.2:7046/dynamicsnav90

when I open the windows client get an error :

"A server was not found at

    net.tcp://serveraddress:7046/DynamicsNav80

Either the URL is incorrect or server is not currently available."

**Open port 7046 on NAV Server in Windows Firewall.I did not install any other security application on client and server PC.

**we have no domain,Server,... . our computer are connect to each other by wireless modem and WORKGROUP.

3.Also I want to connect to server by windows client from internet.

Conclusion: I want to connect to server in local network and through internet by NAV windows client.

    Thanks for your corporation.

RE: Connect to NAV Server by Windows Client through internet?

    Hey Adiika,

    So Sorry for late reply.

Hope you have gone through this link as minimum system configuration for NAV 2016.

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd301054(v=nav.90).aspx

1.Nav Server 2016+SQL Server Enterprise 2014 on same computer ( Windows 7 Ultimate)

Install Type: Cutome (Client+server+Web Client+Administrator Tools)

Have you tried connecting Connecting Windows Client over here as this is the Server Computer. Whats the Firewall Status, off it for a while. If its running fine then from Windows RTC can u please press Alt + M +T and check whats the Server address over there.

If this is Server Address   Server : 192.168.1.2:7046/dynamicsnav90  and you are unable to open it up that means it's yet not permitted from your server computer to be used even within domain and that permission needs to be given.

Have you just installed NAV Client over here OR Development Environment as well??

If you have installed development environment then can you please and try to open this database, give IP in the server address and check if you can look up the databases. It's altogether a connectivity Issue which your Client Computer is unable to Communicate with the Server Computer.

P.S - For WEB Client there's no any Barrier it's like a WEB URL which you can globally access from anywhere.

    RockwithNAV,

1.On server that installed all tier, windows client works correctly.firewall is on and create inbound rules to allow open ports like 7046,1433,1434 (ports that's defined during setup)

2.that's server address .from client side I have ping from server.I installed client as windows client not development environment. As I told you my problem is what you said "If this is Server Address   Server : 192.168.1.2:7046/dynamicsnav90  and you are unable to open it up that means it's yet not permitted from your server computer to be used even within domain and that permission needs to be given."

could you please more explain this:

"If you have installed development environment then can you please and try to open this database, give IP in the server address and check if you can look up the databases. It's altogether a connectivity Issue which your Client Computer is unable to Communicate with the Server Computer."

    Thanks .

RE: Connect to NAV Server by Windows Client through internet?

    Adiika,

Can you please check if the account that runs the Service Tier has DBOwner-Rights on the database.

Please Install Development Environment In the computer where you are facing this error as it will give some more clear picture. After Installing open the Development Environment and navigate to - File -> Database -> Open. In the server address enter the IP of the Server computer and you must have made your Windows Login over there so after entering the Server address open the lookup of the Database name. If you can do this then choose your database and press OK. Now click on any Page and press Alt + r.

Navigate to - File -> Database -> Information. Check that in server instance if you can find the same server address that you have in the Server Computer.

Your Windows Login should have the prior permission in SQL SERVER.

Please do this and let me know.
