Microsoft Dynamics GP (Archived)
Posted on by 860

I followed the steps by Aaron Donat to change the Dynamics database name  When I log into GP I am receiving the following error 'A get/change operation on table 'syUserDefaults' failed.  More info show 'database DYNAMICS does not exist'.  What is looking for the Dynamics database?  My new database name in DYN01.  What did I miss?

thanks,

Amy

    Hi,

Not sure if this helps, but by default, the Pathname setting in the Dexterity Dex.ini file does not exist, and assumes the system db is DYNAMICS.  Simply adding the pathname setting from the GP dex.ini to the Dex dex.ini solved the problem for me.  My dynamics database is set to DYNAMICS15, so I added the below:

    • Pathname=DYNAMICS15/dbo/

You guys are the best. I just had a crazy issue with GP Web Client, and this article has helped me to resolve it.

    Hi Amy,

The constants stored in the Dynamics database in a table named CONSTANTS.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Further to Dex.ini and registry, "DYNAMICS" DB name is explicitly stored within the following tables.

    USE DYNAMICS
    SELECT DB_NAME FROM [DB_Upgrade]
    SELECT DTAPTHNM, DBNAME FROM [SY02100]

You may need to update these values.

Any wanted to share my experience with search all db script.  If you get errors message when using the script  try this one as plan "B" ,  www.sqlusa.com/.../searchalltablesallcolumns

    Cheers!

I haven't had much time to look at it.  Hopefully later this week I can get back to it.  I need to run the script from David to scan the stored procedures for the Dynamics database.

Will update the case later with results

Amy did you turn on the all three flags at Dex.ini?

If yes the capture the trace at profiler to identify the offender.

You can also turn on the debugger script.

One more thing you can do.  David musgrave has scan all db storedproc at his blog. Get it and scan for dynamics word being stored.

    Cheers!

    RE: Amy

My stored procedure ' SMCleanupfilesbeforelogin' was corrupted so I restored it and changed the Dynamics references to 'DYN01'.  Now I am receiving the next error.  This is from the DEXSQL log

    /*  Date: 10/09/2013  Time: 8:10:04

    SQLSTATE:(S0002) Native Err:(208) stmt(91909112):*/

    [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'DYNAMICS..SY01500'.*/

The program is looking for the SY01500 in the Dynamics which is not there.  I still have something that is pointing to the Dynamics database.

    Hi All,

Amy is correct that you can change existing database names so you can take advantage of the Named System Database feature in GP 2013.

With that being said Leslie is correct that once you have went through the article and change the registry and Dex.ini you should not be receiving any errors. At this point Amy could you post a screenshot of the error you are getting and what you are seeing in the Dexsql.log?
