What is the best way to move an organization from legacy interface to unified interface?

Posted on by 343

Hi,

I have just started working for an organization (25+ D365 users) where they are still using D365 for field service with the legacy interface. Now, I have assigned the job to move them from legacy to unified interface. What is the best approach for that? Knowing that all the users are very reluctant and doesn't like the unified interface, as they think the old one is more user friendly as compare to the unified interface. In that case, how to handle and tackle the users who are not willing to move (don't want to mess with something new, that's their main problem)?

Any help or suggestion in this regard would be highly appreciated. This is something I will be doing for the first time in my career, need some advice please.

Thanks.

    Hello Slava,

    Thank you for sharing this.

One important consideration: this solution is a very temporary workaround, as the legacy web client won't be available anymore at some point after the full transition to Unified Interface (it will stop working even if you custom build the record URL to render in the classic interface).

I want to complete the previous answers by introducing to you a simple free solution called "UDS Interface Switcher". You can install it here: https://uds.systems/add-ons/interface-switcher

You can easily switch from some record or view on the new interface to the same record or view on the old interface. That could make feel users more comfortable and it will make less pressure if you will ask them to use the Unified interface. Time to time users could switch and find some things that the can`t find in the UCI.

It`s just one button, installed to the environment in 2-10 minutes. But helps a lot for Online CRM user.

    Hello,

For guidance on best practice on how to transition to Unified Interface, please refer to these Microsoft resources:

    1. For Field Service specifically, you will find that Playbook very useful as well:
    https://community.dynamics.com/365/fieldservice/b/fieldservice/posts/dynamics-365-field-service-upgrade-playbook

    2. Unified Interface playbooks. Chapter 3 in particular focuses on transition

    3. Unified Interface transition checklist

    Hi Waleed

In that case, I recommend picking a small group of more IT savvy users as a pilot group. Train those users, explain the different behaviours and get them use the Unified Interface app (in parallel with the older legacy web client). Since those users are IT savvy, it will be easier to train those users and they will be more inclined to use the new interface and see the benefits of it.

Then, slowly roll out the access to more and more users with similar training and let the super users from the pilot group to help the new users in transition process.

    Hi Waleed,

The user training can be arrange for end users where you can guide them how to operate system in new interface and if any issue you can always contact Microsoft support. Thank you.

    Hi Mobeen,

Thanks for sharing your experience. Appreciate.

However, I would like to know how you managed the users training? Is there any user training you provided while moving from legacy to UCI?

Because, normally the users are familiar with the system and moving to UCI must not create as such issue. In our case also, the users are using the legacy interface from quite some time. Do we have to arrange user training for them? What do you suggest in this scenario?

    Thanks,

    Waleed.

    Hi Waleed,

    Hope you are doing well.

We have supported multiple customers to move Field Service from legacy web client to UCI, we have to follow below approach in order of successful migration:

    1. Firstly, we need to know and convince end users that legacy web client is going to be deprecated soon so we must have to move to UCI and Microsoft is always here to help customers if they have any issue.

    2. Secondly, we have to create sandbox instance and copy latest production environment.
    3. Then we have to upgrade field service to latest version at sandbox instance which is latest copy of production.

    4. Once the sandbox instance have latest field service upgrade, we can ask end user to perform the end to end testing and you might need to change customization according to UCI.
    5. If any issue happened during testing phase, you can raise the issue with product team.

Hope it will help. Thank you.

    Best Regards,

    Mobeen Mohsin
