Re-naming Security Roles

Quick Question - Will renaming a security role cause any known issues for my users? I have some really badly named security roles that I'd like to clean up and rename, but I don't want to break anything. I haven't found anything saying specifically if there is any issue with it, but wanted to check first.

Hello Toni,

It shouldn't cause any problems since you are just changing the name. You just need to make sure that, this security role is not used by any custom javascript (its common to use them to provide access to business process, show /hide ribbons etc.), plugins and workflows. Otherwise good to go.

Awesome thank you. I will double check my workflows but I'm pretty sure none of them are set on a security role name.

Toni,

That should not cause any issues but just to stay safe you should take a backup of existing roles before you changed name. The easiest way to to that - create solution and put all security roles inside, export solution as unmanaged.

Hi,

it won't cause any issues except if you have some javascripts/plugins/custom workflow activities which would be verifying role membership by role name
