Plug-in registration tool: Can we make "Select All" check box ticked by default while updating an assembly?

It may sound an odd question at first, but honestly, this is becoming a bit of pain if you aren't alert all the time while updating an assembly through Plug-in registration tool.

By default, "Select All" check box is unchecked, after you select an assembly (dll). So if one forget to tick "Select All" check box, then all steps are unregistered, and one will need to register all steps once again.

In most cases, such mistakes do not happen.. but this is an easier mistake to do.

Any solution/ workaround, by which the "Select All" box remains ticked in registration tool after assembly is selected?

    Hi,

By Default when you register the first time a plugin you need to select what do you want register. After, when you register a new version there are selected the plugin that you have registered, For example if you registered a dll with two plugin and select only one, the second time you have by default the plugin registered selected. If you forgot to select all, you will update only the old registered plugin but the new one there will not install. You lost a plugin only if you uncheck the flag on plugin.

There are not a solution to "Select All" always check with new plugin. You must decide manually if you want register a new plugin or not.

    Thanks

    Thanks Alessandro for the reply.

Yes, I agree, it should be a manual decision whether one wants to register a new plugin or not.

But my concern is that, the already registered plugins are also not getting selected when I try to register a new version of the DLL, which means, if I forget to tick the plugins (which are already registered) they will get unregistered.

I am using Plugin registration tool provided within SDK.

We too are experiencing the same issue.  Way to easy to forget to check the select all and loose all the registrtaions.

    Hi Nirman,

First time you have to manually select the plugins which you want to register. So once you register the plugin then next time if you try to update, it automatically comes all selected by default, unless you add any new plug-in in this assembly.

    Thanks!

Yes, but when you select the dll to update it resets all the checkboxes to false.  Something it didn't do in older versions (at least not in 2011).  Its then very easy to update without remembering to select all again.

The scenarios where you want to update the dll and unregister steps is almost never.  Its almost always the case you want to keep the existing steps and perhaps add one or two more.

The default to clear them all on load of a dll is accident prone at best.  Older behavior seems more correct.
