Tracking Contacts from Outlook to CRM - duplicates in CRM

A client has duplicate detection set on Contacts to match on Full Name. A user tracked a Contact from Outlook to CRM. Duplicate detection did not pick it up and duplicate was created from the tracked item.

Is there a way around this? Does duplicate detection not work on what Outlook pulls into CRM?

I assume they have since that rule is working otherwise. My question was more around - "is duplicate detection invoked or triggered by tracking in Outlook"?

have you checked that the user has enabled duplicate detection as explained here:

www.microsoft.com/.../turn-duplicate-detection-rules-on-or-off-for-the-whole-organization.aspx
