Production Orders with sub-assemblies

I have Item A with zero inventory that has has a BOM.

The BOM contains Item B that is also a BOM item, but I have 100 inventory. Item A requires 10 of Item B to make it.

Both are set to Make-to-order Manufacturing Policy.

When I create a Production Order for 1 x Item A and Refresh Production Order I get 2 lines. The top line is for Item A, the second, indented, line is for Item B. The Production Journal for Item B has Consumption lines for its components and an Output line with Output Quantity = 10.

So BC is expecting me to make another 10 of Item B when I already have enough inventory to cover the demand needed to make Item A.

How can I configure BC to use the available inventory instead of expecting me to create more?

Item B in Item A's BOM was set as type = Item.

I changed Item B to Make to Stock and got what I was expecting. A Production Order for Item A and the list of Components showing the correct Qty Per and the Production Journal showing a Consumption line for Item B with the correct Consumption Quantity.

    Hi

    Quick question

In Item A BOM do you have item B as "Item" or "Production BOM"? If you have it as "Production BOM" can you change to "Item" then create new production order and try?

If you have item B as Item in Item A BOM then, can you change item B to Make to Stock and then try?

    Thanks
