Create a Monitoring Page

Posted on by 80

Hello,

Here in my organization we have a monitoring system that check's the connectivity of some clients with our server. This information is stored in a Oracle Database and exposed in some WebServices.

My question is:

Is possible to develop something (plug-in, customization) in the Dynamics 2011 to retrieve this information from this web services and store in an entity in the CRM?

If yes, is possible to have something (plug-in, customization) to automatically check the data stored in this entity, and open a Ticket in the CRM based in some conditions?

Thanks in advance,
Fernando Monje

Plugins in CRM Fire only when triggered by an event, so what will trigger the retrieval of the data from the other system? A user initiating the retrieval or every nn minutes?

If the trigger is time, then build the plugin as a custom workflow activity and build the logic into a workflow - because workflows can handle time intervals.

Technically, a proficient developer can do "anything " in a plugin, so yes, it's the best component to use for your requirement

    UNLESS

you use a data tool like scribe or SSIS or etc etc - preferred by me, but depends on your architecture.

Triggering an action after the data arrives would best be accomplished by a workflow process. Keep the retrieval functionality and the business logic of what happens after retrieval separate.

    Hope that helps,

    Chris

Thanks for your reply Guido, thats my first approach, but you know if is possible to do it with an Dynamics plug-in? My intention is to centralize the tasks the max as possible in the CRM.
