License Grace Period

Hi Everyone,

The client’s users received a warning regarding missing licensing on March 15, 2026. I would like to know the grace period provided by Microsoft after receiving this warning message.

Could anyone confirm how many days the system can continue to be used after this notification?

Thank you.

Mostly microsoft will disable it after 30 days post licenses is expired but following information may be helpful to you.

    • Grace Period (0–30 Days): All services (Email, OneDrive, Teams) remain fully functional. The system notifies administrators to renew.
    • Disabled/Suspended State (31–90+ Days): Access is disabled. Users cannot log in or use apps, but data is preserved in Microsoft data centers.
    • Data Deletion Period (After 90 Days): Depending on the agreement (e.g., Enterprise), the subscription is deactivated, and data may be permanently deleted if not renewed

Please mark this as resolved if it helps you.

    Thanks
    Anupam

Is there any Microsoft link or official documentation where I can read information about the license grace period after receiving a license warning?

    Hi Raheel,

The reply provided by Anupam is incorrect. Those policies might apply to ending a subscription, but this does not apply to the license enforcement for individual users.

The exact start date of your license enforcement depends on the renewal or anniversary date of your Dynamics 365 F&O subscription. This date is called "T".
From about 30-59 days before this date, user without a license assigned will see the in-app warning as you shared in your post. Officially, Microsoft is stating 30 days, but this is a minimum. As we don't know the contract dates for your organization, we can't tell you the exact date when enforcement will be active.

The renewal or anniversary date is visible in Microsoft 365 admin center on the license details. If it is OK, the organization should have received an email with the exact date. This is sent to LCS administrators.

There is a grace period of 15 days after date T to ensure additional licenses (if required) can be purchased and assigned to the users. You can read about it here: Licensing Advent Calendar - Day 2 - Staged timelines - Dynamicspedia

You can read more about the license enforcement on my blog: Dynamics 365 Licensing Enforcement Advent Calendar - Dynamicspedia

    Hi Andre,

Thank you for sharing the detailed response. I will review the blog you shared.

I would also like to share that some of the renewal is due on May 15, 2026, the remaining is due on June 15, 2026, and almost all users has begin to receive this license warning message on March 15, 2026.

    Hi Raheel,

The enforcement will start for all users in your tenant at the same date, even if you have multiple agreements. As you now started to receive in-app warnings, I do think this will be effective as of May 15, rather than in June. If you received an email from Microsoft, this will contain the exact date.

In case May 15 is your date, then the grace period of 15 days leads to an enforcement start after May 30.

    Hi,

I hope you are all doing well.

Previously, everything was working fine, and the required licenses were purchased and assigned. However, today some users are receiving an error message and are unable to log in.

I have a mix of users—some who already have licenses (possibly requiring renewal) and others who are newly added.

Could you please guide me on how to identify which users require license renewal and which are newly added users?

    Hi Raheel,

You can check on the User license consumption report which users are missing a license. You can generate the report from LCS or Power Platform Admin Center. See also my blog.

In case the report is showing that the users have the licenses and they are stilled rejected, please provide more information and details or log an incident for Microsoft Support.
