Best Practices For Handling Posted/Canceled Work Orders in the System?

Once a Work Order has the System Status of Posted or Completed we want the record to become read-only. My question is, should the WO remain active or is it better practice to deactivate?

Trying to determine if one of the following methods makes sense,

  1. Create custom buttons on the banner for 'Complete' and 'Cancel.' This would make the record read-only and deactivate the record with a status of either Complete or Canceled (I believe the statuses will be custom as well) or,
  2. Have a process in the background that just makes the form read-only but keeps the WO active

Any advise/recommendations?

    Hi gsimpson,

    Both are OK.

1.Generally, you can make the record read-only easily by deactivating the record.

--Update the values of the "Status" and "Status Reason" fields to Inactive when the System Status changed to Posted or Completed.

Note: You can customize Status Reason field but Status field is not customizable.

2.If you want to just makes the form read-only but keeps the WO active, you can use js code to achieve it:

    Hi gsimpson,

As suggested by Leah Ju, better to use the script to make the form read only.

However, trigger this script on save action, not on change of the status.

    Hi gsimpson,

Adding to the suggestion above. You could assign it to a Team where everybody else would have read privileges only.
