Adding a BOM item with zero consumption

I'm wanting to add an item to a BOM for a production order that isn't consumed. I added the item with a quantity of zero to the BOM in order to avoid consumption and still have it appear on the picking list journal. Is there a more effective way to accomplish this? Ideally, I want the item to be consumed at the 'Start' stage of the production order, and then be returned to inventory once the order is 'Reported as Finished.'

If so you would have to use two BOM lines. One with a positive quantity with flushing principle set to start and another with negative quantity with flushing principle set to Finish.

Remember to set your picking list consumption to be set to flushing principle in both production journal posting dialogs (start and RAF.
