CRM 2016 online SQL DB backup and download

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi

How can we backup and download SQL bak file for our CRM 2016 online instance ?

The reason is to migrate CRM 2016 online to CRM 2016 on premise.

I've just confirmed with a colleague, this can be requested from Microsoft support.  You will need to verify your identity, and they can provide a link (FTP) to your SQL BAK file.

Is there any way to request from Microsoft to give us a backup copy of our SQL DB ?

Not currently.  Azure backups are in the CRM roadmap that allow you to take backups and store them in Azure where you can download - but no notification on when this will be available.

    Customer backup and restore UPDATED

As part of our trusted cloud investments, Dynamics 365 (online) customers will be able to do their own Dynamics 365 backups and restores to meet their business data recovery plans. Customers will be able to back up their Dynamics 365 database to Azure storage using a secure data transfer (not the public Internet). Customers will also be able to download and connect their backup to an on-premises environment. This feature provides several potential scenarios, including a local developer experience.

To migrate to on-premise, the only officially supported way to perform this currently is to export the solutions from your online environment, and then through the data import wizard or bulk data import tool (or third party tools) bring the data over to your on-premise environment.
