Problems creating weighed items using EAN13 bar codes

Good evening,

I am trying to setup weighted items in inventory and am having some issues. When a sample is scanned the cashier is prompted for the weight. the bar code printed by the electronic scale contains the department (product) ID of the item and the total price of the item. Is there any assistance that can be provided to help me get the item and total on the POS without the weight prompt being displayed? An example of a scanned bar code is 2003700118806, the weight is 1.98lbs, the price is 60.00 and the total is 118.80. The item lookup code is 2003700000000. When scanned at POS we are prompted for the weight. Is there something I am doing wrong here? Please assist.

    Hello JonD - I think what you are referring to is price-embedded barcodes, where your scale prints a barcode that has the price embedded in the barcode.  Here are some things to review

    - These items are not "weighted items" in RMS, set up the item type to "standard". Set the Per Unit Cost (per kilo, gram, pound. ounces) and the Per Unit Price in the Cost and Price fields of the GENERAL tab as you normally would.

    - In Store Manager, go to file - configuration - options, open up the menus and check mark "Utilize Random Weight EAN"  ( I think you can only use UPC or EAN but not both).

    - Random Weight UPCs allow for 13 digits, 5 of which consist of the price (Items up to $999.99).  The format is 20xxxxxyyyyyc or 02xxxxxyyyyyc - you program the scale to spit out this type of sequence / barcode.

    where

    20 or 02 = Random Weight UPC Code Indicator

    x = Item Lookup Code Prefix. The Item Lookup Code includes this prefix, followed by 00000 (actual Lookup Code = 2xxxxx00000 or 02xxxxx00000)

    y = Price of Item / 100

    c = Check Digit (ignored, may or may not exist)

    The entire code has 13 characters.

    Example:

    1. Set up an Item with an Item Lookup Code of 2057720000000. Generally, the EAN 13 Barcode Format is used for these Items.

    2. Print a label from your scale with the code 2057720112568 (according to above scheme, this should be a $112.56 Item).

    3. When Item Lookup Code 2057720112568 is scanned at the POS, the Item 205772000000 will appear and a Price of $112.56 will display.

    Give this a shot - good luck.

    Hello Fernando, you are correct, I am working with price embedded barcodes. Thanks for this information, I will test what you have suggested and let you know what the results are.

    Thanks

    change item type to standard.

    Random Weight UPCs allow for 13 digits, 5 of which consist of the price (Items up to $999.99).

    Format: 20xxxxxyyyyyc or 02xxxxxyyyyyc

    20 or 02 = Random Weight UPC Code Indicator

    x = Item Lookup Code Prefix. The Item Lookup Code includes this prefix, followed by 00000 (actual Lookup Code = 2xxxxx00000 or 02xxxxx00000)

    y = Price of Item * 100

    c = Check Digit (ignored, may or may not exist)

    The entire code has 13 characters.

    Hello Scott,

    I will be conducting testing this afternoon. I will post the results as soon as this is completed

    Hi Fernando,

    You are correct and this does work perfectly. But as you also mentioned, the maximum value that can be scanned is $999.99. We have item barcodes that are in excess of that. When a product greater than $999.99 is scanned the search window pops up. I suspect that based n your explanation I will not be able to scan products greater than 999.99. Would you or anyone else be able to assist me with overcoming this barrier? I will need to scan items with totals greater than the price barrier.

    Hi Scott,

    I conducted a series of tests and all is well with Fernando's instructions. I have come across one issue that I hope to gain some help with, that is there is a limit to the amount that can be scanned. I would like to overcome this hurdle.

    Hello JonD, I am having the same problem with the amount limits of $999.99 in RMS.  I am in Nigeria where our currency most often requires that you are scanning items up to N9999.99 or even N99999.99.  Have you been able to get help with this and if you have can you share?  Scans up to N9999.99 will do just fine.  I am wondering if the decimal points in the EAN code price read in RMS can be eliminated. Thank you.
