We are currently upgrading the CRM 4 system to CRM 2015 (both on-premise). Since there is no direct upgrade part we decided to re-write and clean the CRM 4 version. This is now done. However we encountered an issue when migrating and remapping data from the CRM 4 to CRM 2015 database. The issue we got stuck on is importing the disabled systemusers (for historical purposes) without recreating the corresponding active directory records.

The idea is to use SSIS to build a package to map and migrate data (using CRM adapters and script components).

Also, once the users are migrated, is there a way of mapping the new systemuserid on every record (createdbyid, modifiedbyid, etc) ?

Any ideas on how we can go about it?

Hi Robert, when you migrate users you are mapping some names from CRM 4 to real users in active directory. If the user doesn't exist anymore in active directory but only you crm history shows it as disabled user it's like you are trying to create a new user in CRM that doesn't exist in active directory. I can't imagine a way to do it without recreating the correspondent in active directory

The problem is that there are 200 + inactive users and would be a nightmare to recreate them all only to create the user in CRM and then remove them.

I am really stranded since this is a huge stumbling block in the whole crm upgrade process and need it to be done. At this stage I am ready to try any (sensible) solution.

There is a user type called a User Stub. It's designed to do exactly what you want. It's just an paceholder user record with no integration anywhere. I know this works in CRM Online, but I am not sure about on-premises.

If that doesn't work, you could remap them all to a single AD account or to a Team in CRM during the load. you'd lose who owned what, but I would imagine that's not terribly important if they're no longer with the company.

I agree 200+ will be a pain, I only had so recreate user. I believe Wayne's suggestion to create a team is the best option you have

Thanks all for you help. However linking all inactive users to one team or owner is not an option for us. That would mean losing data such as timesheet owners and activity owners.

We will be opening a support ticket with Microsoft. Will see how it goes.

Thanks all for your help. I was very disappointed to hear (from Microsoft support) that there is no way to import disabled users that do not exist in AD anymore. We will painfully recreate all the users in AD, import the users and delete them from AD again. What a pity !!
