Privacy settings in CRM for confidential emails

We have been asked if there is any way in MS CRM that all emails are tracked, but some of them should be private and not visible to all the other users. Is there any way how this can be achieved?

Hi, currently the isprivate flag is not synced - so the only effective option is not to track confidential emails.

Thanks Scott, for the prompt reply. Hmmm.... doesn't really satisfy the client requirements, as not tracking would mean certain critical emails can get lost.

Hi Moira

We have the same issue - we've had to create a complicated set-up of business units to isolate the ones that want this facility. We then make their emails visible only to their own BU but run a workflow to create a 'shadow' copy visible to everyone that shows only To/From/Subject and then has a comment in the description advising to contact the owner if they need more info. This way everyone can see that an interaction has happened but not the details.

It would be nice if there was a more elegant way of doing this !

Thanks for your comment. We never got around to implement this requirement because we lost the customer, but I do get asked this question about confidentiality a bit too often. It's good to know that solutions are possible, but you're right, I think it's a common requirement that should be handled "elegantly" as you put it, through CRM.
