GP 2013 - Fixed Assets Module

We recently changed our depreciation account numbers and I cannot figure out how to update them in the system so that when I run deprecation I don't have to update all the depreciation accounts one at a time.  I went to Financial/Setup/Fixed Assets/Account Group Setup and changed all the GL Accounts under each Account Group ID but when I run depreciation it still tries to use the old GL codes which have now been deactivated so I have to go thru and update the accounts one at a time.  How do I update the GL Accounts so that I don't have to continue updating them each time I run depreciation?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks -

Miranda Bowers

    Hi Miranda,

The FA module is a little different, as you have discovered. The good news is that you can do what you want to do in a relatively painless way. The FA module makes its changes using the 'Mass Change' window located in the FA Transactions content pane.

    Kind regards,

The issue is that when I run depreciation, the system is still using the old Account Numbers.  How do I change the account numbers permanently so that I don't have to change them after I run depreciation?  I've went to Set-Up/FA/Account Group and changed the Accounts under each account group ID so I don't know why they aren't pulling over on depreciation?  Does that make sense?

It makes sense to me that it's not changing. Going into the FA/Account group and changing the accounts will not roll down to the assets that have already been set up. The FA groups do not work like the other groups and classes in GP. Once the account has been set on an asset, you HAVE to use the Mass Change window on the individual assets to change them as of a date certain and going forward.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Agreed, although you *can* do it through the Account window if you want to go through each asset one by one. (available through General then the related tab if I remember correctly)

So true, but I would want to have a discussion with my installer if the system were set up so that this way was required. I suppose you could create separate asset groups and then apply the change to the group- depending on the set up, this might work.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
