Basics of Dynamics AX

I am .net developer. I have no idea about Microsoft Dynamics AX. can any one suggest what is MS Dynamic Ax. and for what purpose. how to install that in my computer. i mean is there any setup. and One sample application regarding morph x and x++. Please can you share any document regarding this.

    Before installation, you must be allowed to obtain AX (you can't just download it from public web) - because you obviously aren't an implementation partner, your chance is MSDN subscription. Then follow Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Installation Guide and related materials. You'll need Active Directory and SQL Server, among other things.

    For information about development, visit Dynamics AX Developer Center. I would also recommend buying Inside Dynamics AX 2012.

    Nothing mentioned above "exists in Visual Studio". You can implement some components in Visual Studio, nevertheless AX is a separate application and IDE. Please look into the installation guide to understand the installation process; there is no reason to repeat it here.

    Yes, Visual Studio 10.0 can be used as Dynamics AX 2012 Development environement

    To have it, you need to install a component, which you will find in Dynamics AX installtion wizard.

    Consider reviewing Installation guide provided by our friends above.

    Dynamics AX has a concept to show all it Application Objects in a tree view (called AOT). these Application Objects are basically the Tables/ Forms/ classes/ reports and many other things which contains all the standard logic of Dynamcis AX.

    Once you install the Dynamcis AX Visual Studio component, you will be able to find the AOT in Visual Studio itself, and will be able to extend logics using Visual Studio project and C# language.

    You will be able to create a wraper class of Dynamics AX Application objects and will be able use and extend the functionality.

    Other design to develop functionality using C# visual Studio would be consider consumig WCF webservices provided by dynamics AX

    In dynamics AX 2012 developing and exposing WCF webservices is quite easy and WCF webservices are native to Visual Studio..

    Answering to somebody who asks about "MorphX and X++"  that "Visual Studio 10.0 can be used as Dynamics AX 2012 Development environement" is misleading at best. X++ code, forms and many other things can't be developed in Visual Studio - they require MorphX IDE.

    I read wiki. still have confusion,what is MS dynamics AX and   Why MS dynamics AX. Actually .Net for develop web applications and windows applications. Using Asp.Net MVC we can easily develop web applications. still i am not understanding , what is MS dynamics AX and why? what about other dynamics like CRM and NAV. which one preferable.

    can you  please  share this.

    Hi Ram,

    Microsoft Dynamics AX is just like other software. It is built to solve a specific set of problems.

    Microsoft Dynamics AX is a software product, not a development language or framework. (Think Microsoft Office instead of .NET). The Wiki has good information on the history of this software.

    "Why Microsoft Dynamics AX?"

    There are other software (i.e. Other ERP products) out there which are set to solve a similar set of problems that Microsoft Dynamics AX does, they all have Pros and Cons. It's hard to further comment  without more context.

    "what about other dynamics like CRM and NAV. which one preferable."

    The preference is based on the functionality needed. Then there are other concern like implementation and maintenance cost, etc.

    If you are still confused, maybe you can tell us more about what confuses you?

    (For example, you asked Why Microsoft Dynamics AX... tell us about Why Not? =])
