CRM 2011 XAML Workflow Tools Error "Could not generate view for workflow"

Following all the steps described in  Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Developer Toolkit project, I created a new XAML Workflow library (described in Create and Deploy XAML Workflows Using the Developer Toolkitbut dragging and dropping Workflow activity throws the System.IO.IOException: cannot locate resource 'workflowdesigner.xaml'. I've used SDK 5.0.16 dlls to add to VS toolbox. I have also tried creating a workflow in CRM 2011 and editing the WF in Visual Studio, which gives the same error message and a red box instead of the Workflow sequence.

Thanks,

Ben

    Still a problem 10/27/2013

    Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 (64bit)

    Visual Studio Ultimte 2012 v11.0.60610.01 Update 3

    CRM 2011 SDK 5.0.17

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Update Rollup 15 (5.0.9690.3731) (DB 5.0.9690.3557)

Referencing .dlls manually does not solve the issue.

Windows desktop search of the entire local drive for "workflowdesigner.xaml" does not yield any results.

All project files are on the local drive.

Does anyone know of a workaround or the location to download a previous working version of the SDK?

Robert, Have you found a solution to this problem.  I am running into the same issue.  Thanks.  Bill

    Hi Bill.

I opened a MS Support ticket and found out this is a known issue.  I was told "Pending fix in UR 17" with no ETA.  However if you look at the history of releases, Jan 2014 seems likely.  support.microsoft.com/.../2555051

I have heard that you can use workflow DLLs from UR7 as a work-around, but I was never able to get that to work in my environment.  Personally, I've given up on XAML altogether.  If I have to go outside the web UI, I may as well go straight to code.

    Best of luck,

    Robert

This Problem still exists (Dec 2013) with latest SDK - Really annoying!

Someone posted this on Microsoft Connect:

Maybe it helps to vote for it.

Joe, Thanks.  I just tried to follow the link and got a 'page not found'.  Perhaps, this is Microsoft's approach to the problem. ;)

Hmm. Page  still there  for me ... have you registered for Dynamics CRM in Microsoft Connect? Maybe this is a prerequisite to see the page.
