Impact on posted transaction after changing chart of account

We have our Dynamics AX 2012 R3 CU10 running well. Our CFO has found that because we are going to start production and other operations, the current Chart of Account is not sufficient and perfect to handle them. Hence he wants to Change/Restructure the entire Chart of Account. However, we have already been working on the system in Finance Module, Procurement and Inventory.

Can you advise me about the situation after changing Chart of Account. What will happen of my previous posted transaction? Shall we be able to see and access previous transactions after changing/restructuring the Chart of Account?

Thanks in Advance!

    Hello Amarnath Gupta,

@Question 1:  What will happen of my previous posted transaction? Answer: Nothing, the will remain as is

@Question 2: Shall we be able to see and access previous transactions after changing/restructuring the Chart of Account? Answer: Sure

The answers assume that you just add / retire, that is make inactive accounts that are already available in the current Chart of Account.

Please note that AX does not allow switching / changing the COA once you have started working with AX. You can identify this in GL/Setup/ledger where you cannot select another COA. Developers might certainly be able to do that but then everything might get messed up. If you really plan to 'scrap' the old COA and make use of a new one then it might be better to start with a 'fresh' company setup.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Jagadeeshk

there are two ways to handle this requirement.

    1. use current COA and add new GL Codes as per your finance department requirements and transfer the  balance of cutoff date from one GL to another GL as per requirement. Earlier posted transactions would be available  in original GL code ( from where balance transferred)

    2. Configure new company setups with new COA   as per your finance department requirements and transfer the  balance of cutoff date from Old company to New Company, in this case earlier posted transactions would not be available  in new company.
