Error trying to connect Finance Power BI report with BC

I can't get the Finance Power BI report for BC v26.2 to connect to my data source.  It always times out with an error saying "The XML for Analysis request timed out before it was completed.  Timeout value: 7199 sec."  Does anyone know why this would keep happening?  I have successfully gotten the Inventory and Inventory Valuation reports connected without issue.
I have the same question (0)

I haven't encountered this before. Is it because the data volume is too large? Would this problem occur if your switched to a different demo company?
    PS:

    Thanks.

It’s not a connection or permission issue. it’s a performance/time-out issue because the Finance dataset is too large or complex to load in one go.
You just need to reduce or optimize what Power BI is pulling from Business Central. Choose only one company (don’t load all) and limit the date range. Fix it by filtering, reducing data history, or using incremental refresh.
To confirm the issue, you can create a new company and try the transfer once, you’ll then realize the difference.

    Hello,

The timeout happens because the Finance Power BI report pulls a much larger dataset than the Inventory ones. It often exceeds Business Central’s web service time limit (about two hours).
    Quick summary:
The query is too big — filter it down (by date, company, or dimensions).
Shorten the Timeout in Power Query (around 7–8 minutes max).
Reduce columns or tables being loaded.
Schedule refreshes during low-traffic hours to avoid server slowdowns.

    Hi,

    The error message:

"The XML for Analysis request timed out before it was completed. Timeout value: 7199 sec."

is a known issue when Power BI tries to load complex datasets from BC, especially Finance reports. These reports often query multiple dimensions, account schedules, and historical entries, which can overwhelm the connector.

Here’s what you can do to resolve or mitigate the issue:

    • Review the Finance report structure. If it uses account schedules or custom dimensions, simplify the query or reduce the date range.
    • Use filters in Power BI Desktop before loading the full dataset. For example, filter by fiscal year or posting date to reduce the initial load.
    • Check whether the report is using DirectQuery or Import mode. Import mode is generally more stable for large datasets.
    • Consider creating a custom API page in BC that exposes only the fields and records you need. This reduces query complexity and improves performance.
    • If you're using the standard Power BI content pack, try downloading the .pbix file and customizing it to remove unused visuals or tables.
    • Monitor performance in BC using telemetry or Page Inspection to identify bottlenecks in the data source.

If the Inventory reports work fine but Finance fails, it's likely due to the volume and structure of financial data rather than a connector issue.
