Hello everyone,

I've just joined a company and one of my roles is working on ERP.

However, I've no prior experience on ERP and my company are using Finance and operation Dynamic 365.

So, my query is i want to create a new role and assign privileges, How, to customize the page based on role? for instance we have a table with many columns, i want to hide and expose column based on user role. Or hide tabs and exposes tabs. Anyhow, i didn't find a good resources that describe how to customize the page based on privilege.

can any one share a good resources that describe how to customize and design page based on role, from the UI not from the backend. Also, if you now any helpful resources that would turn me into master i would appreciated it! :)

THANKS in advance!

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Salshaw749,

When you want to start learning security in Microsoft Dynamics 365, I would recommend the official documentation and two blogs. The blogs are written by fellow Microsoft MVP Alex Meyer and me.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/sysadmin/role-based-security

    https://alexdmeyer.com/d365fo-security-topics/

    https://dynamicspedia.com/tag/security

Hiding larger parts of a form would be cumbersome using security. You can try to use table/field permissions to hide individual fields and there is an option to hide form controls. For the form controls, in many occasions, you need additional development in Visual Studio. You can read about a small example to hide fields in this post: Security how-to: Only finance users are allowed to see cost prices in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations - Dynamicspedia

If the requirement is about creating different visualizations of existing forms, you can also achieve a lot using personalization and Saved views. The saved views can be published to security roles, so users will have a different view compared to the original design.

THANK you very much for your time and effort!

It was very helpfull! but i've not find any source that will describe how to hide a specific column in a table. Do you know how?

    Hi Salshaw749,

Have you read the section 'Table and field security' in the blog I shared about cost prices only visible for finance users? This is describing the option to set specific table and field override permissions to hide a field with the deny option.
