Hi,

How can I change environments in Outlook add-in?

for example,
I have been testing Incoming Documents and sending file in the sandbox. Now I want the same for the production.

    Hi Lucas,

Just to clarify do you want to install the Outlook add-in in production?

    Hi

This is how we did it

You need to uninstall the add-in (Outlook -> File -> Manage Add-ins). Then wait about hour or two. Then go to your BC production and install the add-in the same way you did it from Sandbox.

Sometimes you may need to re-install it manaually https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/admin-outlook#deploy-the-add-in

Alright. Let me check if it works at my end. I'll keep you posted.

    Thanks.

    Hey MahGah,

Can you please tell whether I can switch between the environments in my Business Central outlook add-on.

I am unable to understand that how it is picking the certain environment. Sometimes it picks the Production, and sometimes sandbox. I have no control on that. Is there something that I am missing?

    Thanks

    Hi

Unfortunately I could not find a solution for that. I just make sure add-in is only active in Production and not sandbox in BC. I hope Marco Mels  or Andy Sather  can provide extra info here.

Hi, I ran into this problem recently while testing a new feature.

    More details:

    pastedimage1647995295817v1.png

As you might know, In the current version, when we deploy Outlook Add-in, we need to download two files in BC first.

    pastedimage1647995367352v3.png

    pastedimage1647995466793v4.png

Then upload to Integrated Apps in Microsoft 365 admin center

    pastedimage1647995484281v5.png

As shown in the screenshot at the beginning, the environment name is included in the downloaded xml file, so when you deploy into the Microsoft 365 admin center, only one environment will be available.
If you need to switch, you must first remove the old version, then re-download the above two files in the new BC environment, and deploy them to the Microsoft 365 admin center (the redeployment may take 24 hours to take effect)

    Hope this info helps.

    Thanks.

RE: Outlook Add-in multiple production Environments/Sandbox

    Hello,

The issue applies to a multi tenant environment as well using On-Premise BC. More specifically, the issue applies to multiple environments or companies with only one Office 365 deployment including Exchange Online subscription.

The only possible answer for now is to indeed follow Yun Zhu's suggestion to uninstall the Add-In.

If this scenario does not work in a SaaS environment, especially if there are end customers that have two BC production environments, feel free to raise it.

For OnPrem in a multi tenant environment, I raised an internal request for the product group.

    Thanks.

    Thankyou All.

One more query, please tell me why BC outlook add-in keeps on refreshing itself?

Mostly it runs very smoothly, but sometimes the BC pane in outlook keeps on refreshing itself and continue to do so till the time I sign out and sign back in.

    What's the solution.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I just changed the BC plugin for Outlook to connect to Sandbox environment, where I have still the original Contacts Insights connected to production environment.

    pastedimage1648807803100v1.png

I created a copy of the contacts insight.xml file and inserted connection strings to Sandbox environment.

    - ID -> insert some random values for GUID or generate random GUID online

    - change all environment strings (GUID) to match your sandbox environment

    - save the file as *.XML

    pastedimage1648807662358v1.png

upload xml file to your Sandbox BC and upload same XML file to outlook Add-In

Hi Damjan Zakojc. Thanks for the input here. When comparing the XML files downloaded from different environment, I also noted that the GUID was the same and thought about changing it for a Sandbox app, so I'm glad to see it works!

One question though, when you say you "upload the xml file to your Sandbox BC", how are you doing this exactly? I've changed the GUIDs in the downloaded files and have successfully uploaded them to the 365 Admin centre, so this is the only part I'm not sure on.

    Thanks in advance!
