Can you Copy a Security Role but assign it to a Different Business Unit?

Hello!

We are upgrading to CRM 2016 on Prem and would like to do away with the multiple Business Units, since we do not need to isolate records. I have a couple of questions:

Is there a way to change the Business Unit that a Security Role is linked to?
Is there a way to create a copy of the Security Role but link it to a different (parent) Business Unit?

I'm trying to avoid manually creating those security roles again since all we are trying to do is simplify, removing the unnecessary silos.

security roles are rarely linked to the business units - they are usually defined for the whole organizaiton, and, then, CRM creates a "hide" copy for each BU. However, if you see those security roles when you go to the security->security roles, that means you have them at the organization level (and, so, if you create a copy, it'll be there as well)

Are you certain you have the created at the BU level (not on the org level)?

On the other hand, if you want to move your users to the root BU, they will lose the security roles. If that's what you are trying to do (keep the security roles), I'm not sure there is any simple solution.. a plugin maybe.. There was a discussion here:
