Dimension sets not updating properly

Hello,

 

I have some of our dimension sets set up to update balances during the posting process.  However, I find myself having to rebuild / update balances in the Dimension set form quite often.  If these are set up to update during posting, why would I have to update manually at all?  Anyone else having this issue and or have a solution?

 

Also today while trying to update a dimension set balance I received the following message:

"The dimension set balances are already being loaded." 

I noticed that the Rebuild balance option was not available.  (I have system admin so I should see it)  The only way I could get the dimension set to update was to delete and re-create a new dimension set.  Any suggestions, or should I simply resign myself to having to rebuild/update balances periodically.

    The trial balance is in a difference table from the live data that is why it needs to be updated.   Most clients I see update with the scheduler.    Key to this is have a small number of Dimension Sets.

    Hi,

    In our system it also get crashed and I get also the message "”The dimension set balances are already being loaded" .

    To make the calculation again available I followed the steps below but I still dont know the source of the error so I have to make this fix daily :-(

    Hi,

    Same problem at customer site here.

    Seemes that problem is caused by records in table DimensionFocusUnprocessedTransactions. After updating balances all pending records from updated dimension set are deleted. What remains are records with state inProcess. These are the records which cause the problem. I our case 2 identical records (only recid differs).

    Deleted those records because after rebuilding balances nothing has to be processed anymore.

    Hi I have checked and in this table I have a lot of records with:

    "FocusDimensionHierarchy" with the recid of the dimension hierarchy that have the problems, "GeneralJournalEntry" with some repeated IDS but not all the same, "State" = Pending.

    Not sure if I should delete everthing here!

    But it clearly seems a Microsoft bug. Do you think?

    Seems to be a bug indeed. Pending records are deleted when recalculating balances. No need to delete these.

    Records with state 'Inprocess' should be deleted if they still exist after recalculating balances but only for the recalculated dimension set.

    Ok,

    I enabled again the recalculation of all my dimension hierachiers and the table DimensionFocusUnprocessedTransactions  is empty again.

    If the problem reproduces again I have thought to disable the option "Update balance during the posting process" on the dimensions hierarchies and update the balance periodically with a batch job. Also if this happens we may report to Microsoft because it clearly seems a bug.

    Hi Dan,

    To fix the Dimension Set that is stuck in "The dimension set balances are already being loaded", go into the DB and flip the values on the DimensionHierarchy.FocusState stuck Dimensions Sets from ‘In Process’ to ‘Initialized’.  When you return to the dimension sets you will be able to manually initialize again.

    This is a bug...to keep it from happening, you can implement hotfix 2708448.  From there our, your dimension sets set to automatically update on posting will be up to date!
