An error occurred with this document. 17 ???

Posted on by 40

We have been experiencing this error when using the contract administration module in GP. The invoice header disappears on the SOP10100 table, but the line items remain. A window pops up and says, "An error occurred with this document. 17" Does anyone know why this error occurs? Thank you.

I couldn't re-create this myself, but took the time to pass it along to the Dynamics GP Development Test Lead.  She will be following-up with her test team to try and re-create.  Hopefully, it's something environmental so we can get you past it and the appropriate changes can be applied in the next SP.

Interesting.... unfortunately the screenshot does not show up. At least I can not see it. Sounds like you may have found a bug. I will pass it along to the dev team and see waht they have to say. thanks for the additional detail.

I just wanted you to know that I was able to produce the error in a test environment. I am pretty sure that I see the cause, but explaining it may be difficult. Great Plains tracks the next available record number for payments under tools-->setup-->sales-->receivables-->options. If a user is in the cash receipts window, a lock is placed on that payment number. Then when we run the contract process and payments are created using the available payment numbers in sequential order. However, if someone closes out the cash receipt window, the lock is released, and the payment number becomes the next available number. Consequently, GP doesn't see that payment numbers after the one just released have been taken, and then our system errors out. Here is a screenshot of what I mean:

Hi wtipton3 - I spent some time today reading through our internal support database looking at support incidents on this error. There are a small number and in each case the support technician has requested a SQL trace to further identify and then fixt the root cause which appears to be different in each case. I would suggest therefore that you log a support incident in this one.
