Centralized VS Decentralized approach

Hello,

I have a very challenging scenario. A holding company with 14 locations scattered across different area within the country, the area suffers from bad infrastructure and connectivity.

What is the recommended or supports approach for the scenario, the management wants to have a full view over the reporting, analytics and transaction for all its business and also there are multi company transactions.

I know that this can be achieved with one centralized installation in one location and others connecting through Terminal services for example, the issue is that when a disconnection occurs the business will stop in all areas and this is not an option

If I go with decentralized approach 14 installations will take place in all locations but the challenge is how we can sync all data together or have a reporting and analytical view for all the company business and also the intercompany transactions, not pretty sure that AIF and web services can be of help here.

Any comments or suggestions are highly appreciated

Thanks

    RE: Centralized VS Decentralized approach

You can check this link www.navicongroup.com/.../3243

Also there was another one but they didn't port it to AX2012 only for 2009 www.bluestarplm.com

    Hope this helps a bit

Thank you for the Information, these are very good.

For the Point -> 4-Use a third party tool to sync all SQL data in this Location ...

Do you have Information about this?

    Thanks, Philipp

    RE: Centralized VS Decentralized approach

One of the critical decisions relates to ERP deployments, where one size does not fit all. There are many options to consider. Options range from a decentralized deployment where you allow your subsidiaries to choose their own solution, a two-tier ERP strategy where larger business units use a global ERP solution and smaller units deploy a standard solution, and the single global instance deployment where all business units use the same ERP instance. At Microsoft, the focus on enabling customers to choose the deployment model that best suits their business strategy.

Due to Some Infrastructure and connectivity problems, some companies may face severe issues in driving their business especially in the Centralized model, while having multiple locations and bad connection may lead in case of disconnection or unavailability to business stoppage and discontinuity and this may lead to severe losses to the business or affect the business negatively.

The applicable scenarios for AX deployment are as follows

1- Standard (Centralized) one instance for all subs and remote companies (requires strong and reliable connection)

2- Standard (centralized with data partition) for HQ an all remote subs (requires strong and reliable Connection) (you will lose Multi company transactions, have to be performed manually or AIF/BizTalk)

3- Non Standard (Decentralized) instance in HQ and all remote subs and create a solution with data warehouse to consolidate all required BI and reporting need and publish them to a portal or incorporate them in AX as links for the SSRS and SSAS cubes to give management a better insight, Also Multi company transactions would be manually or with AIF / BizTalk. Data management will be high to ensure the integrity of shared data between them

4-Use a third party tool to sync all SQL data in this location (used in AX2009) but not pretty sure that it's ported to AX 2012 for structure change and it will be very complex .

For solution 3 the (best practice ) is to minimize the need of standalone subs ( for example decentralize only the instances with difficult connectivity ) and all the others will share the same instance , data warehouse will also be required but minimized in terms of design and maintenance and network usage

    Thanks

    RE: Centralized VS Decentralized approach

    Hello Haytham,

I would be very interested in the findings around the theme of decentralization of AX 2012.

Please obtain more information that you already found out.

    Thanks in advance.

    Greetings Philipp
