VPN vs Terminal server access

End user is complaining that remote access via VPN is slow (which I know it always is a bit slower than normal).  Is remote access to the terminal server ok?  Recommended?  Discouraged?  I need some details, please......

RE: VPN vs Terminal server access

We're using RemoteApp, which is a TS service that you can use for your employees. It's basically a TS/RDP session, but only allows the particular apps to be launched and can prevent particular users getting confused between two desktops and why something saved on one won't show on the other... That's the only real gripe I have about using RDP sessions.

We want to move to the webapp option once some of the bigger third-party add ons we have are supported, like Mekorma.

How about looking into Web Client for GP 2013? :)

Deanne, I access the vast majority of my client's GP via VPN and either Terminal Services or Citrix.  The experience is almost as good as sitting in their office.  A lot depends on your architecture, internet pipe size, etc.   Google 'dynamics gp server requirements' and you should get a link to 'System Requirements for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013' that you can download for reference.

I also have a document that my company uses as a guideline for GP installs that goes above and beyond the minimum requirements outlined by Microsoft that I could email you if you'd like.

RE: VPN vs Terminal server access

We're using Terminal Server as an application server for GP and we have got all the locations connected via VPN to the Terminal Server with ADSL 2Mbps for each location and 12 Mbps for the main location where the server is located and we have 30 concurrent users connected with no latency issues. if you post your scenario exactly I might be able to help you on how to fine tune it. However, the users should not expect to find exactly the same performance when they are on the local network.

RE: VPN vs Terminal server access

VPN speed mainly depends on the VPN servers.

    1. What type of servers do they use.

    2. How congested are their servers (ie how many people are logged on / using bandwidth at the same time)

    3. How far are you from their servers and the servers of the service (netflix/hulu/pandora/etc) that you are trying access.

Also try  the suggestion mentioned from below link.

    Hope this helps!!!
