windows scheduled task error: The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Dexterity ) cannot be found

Hi

I have 3 windows scheduled tasks set up, one on each of the 3 terminal servers and a seperate SQL server. Each of the tasks are run as the same userID. Each task runs a batch file and all 3 batch files are exact copies. On one server the task scheduler works while logged out and the other 2 does not.

The error that I get in event viewer, foe those that does not work is:

The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Dexterity ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: dynamics.exe, 11.0.221.0, 4c41d43c, unknown, 0.0.0.0, 00000000, 0, 05c1ae2e.

The scheduler runs the task successfully when logged in but when the task is meant to run when you are logged out, upon logging back onto the terminal server, the task shows that it is still running. This dooes not happen on the server where it is working.

Why would they behave differently?

Neil

Ever figure this one out?  I am running terminal server , but with GP 10 and I am getting similar message.  One user if reporting that GP crashed every morning when she goes to launch it, but then it is fine for the rest of the day.

I think I have figured this one out so I figured I would post the results.  We use Citrix on 5 different load balanced servers.  Every time a user logs out of GP the DEX.ini stores the last position and size of the window.  X and Y coordinates, Height and Width.  I believe that with differnet configurations of dual monitors, people staying logged in when the servers reboot, etc... the settings are getting messed up.  The screen position either doesn't exist or is out of range for the current user and GP can't handle it and crashes.  This is a similar problem that we are seeing with FRx, Citrix, and Dual monitors.

My solution for this is going to be installing the script debugger tool and overriding the DEX.ini settings on every login to something manageable.  Still testing this now, but theoretically is will work.  If not, at least I have the script debugger tool installed.

    Hi ,

You can specify that a task should run even if the account under which the task is scheduled to run is not logged on when the task is triggered. To do this, select the radio button labeled Run whether user is logged on or not .
