EAN13 Barcode Read Problem

Hi,

My customer is using RMS v2.0, SP3. They have EAN13, selected as barcode format for all items. One ILC: 2706011400340, when printed using RMS' Label printing application, displays barcode with correct ILC. When we scan the same barcode, it reads 2706011400348, which obvisouly not recognizable item by RMS. Customer do not want to change EAN13 format, as their customers do not accept other formats like 128B or 128C. Please advise how can this problem be resolved such that ILC is correctly printed as barcode on label and same is read when scanner through barcode scanner?

regards,

Asad

Try programming the scanner to not use the Check diget on the ean13 barcode.

Make sure that the entire barcode is being printed.

Make sure that there is enough whitespace both before and after the barcode.

You can try reading the barcode in Notepad, if it works, you're good otherwise try something different, larger font, more whitespace, shorter ILC, bigger label, etc.

Its _very_ easy to change _all_ Items barcodes at once.

SO Admin | File | Connect | put in your password | Query | New type'

    UPDATE Item

    SET BarcodeFormat = 'xx'

    Backup First!!

The xx is the number of times you down arrow in the Item's barcode properties box.  Down 3 times = 3 of 9, Down arrow 6 times = Code 128A, 15 time is EAN8 and the last option, 0 = NONE.

Thanks to all for responding to the post. Well, we have finally figured out the solution.

We have asked our client to start using 12-digit itemlookupcode only, while creating new items. To make this 12-digit ILC EAN13 compliant; we created a trigger on item table of HQ DB, which calculates the check digit (13th digit) on the basis of standard algorithmic logic of EAN13 on 12digit ILC. This new checkdigit is then appended to 12 digits ILC, thus ILC becomes 13 digit code, which when printed on barcode label using RMS, the barcode reader reads the same code without changing the 13th digit anymore.

    hello,

I am working with an Android Application and I am successful in reading the QR Code from android mobile, but still I am curious to find the way to scan EAN-13 Bar code from Android Mobile.

If anyone has idea on this, please suggest me?
