Automated upgrade of security groups from AX2009

Are the upgrade tools from AX2009 to D365F&O capable of also upgrading security?

In AX2009 we have customer user groups and permissions we created for our users and we are trying to avoid the need to build all the custom security roles from scratch

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Zvika,

I think you need to  recreate them there is no tool to migrate from AX2009 to D365.

you can easily create the correspoding security roles, duties and privileges

if you can isolate only these object and use LCS code migration then it could migrate them in extensions

    Hi Zvika,

I don't think that this is supported. Due to the manifold changes in D365FO compared to AX2009 I fear that you have to create the security setup again from scratch.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Zvika,

For AX2012, there is a security upgrade advisor tool which did try to do some matching, but also required additional manual actions. You can read it here: docs.microsoft.com/.../best-practices-for-upgrading-to-role-based-security

This tool is not supported for Dynamics 365. I would also not recommend to use it as there are many differences between AX2009 and AX2012, but also between AX2012 and Dynamics 365. So the gap between AX2009 and Dynamics 365 is even bigger.

A manual upgrade would be my recommendation anyway.
