Hello MR 2012 users. I currently have an MR database that is 800Gb. At one point, I wrote SQL to remove all non-essential versions of reports dating back to 2012. Once deleted and SQL DB compacted, the size went down to 160Gb. Then, for some reason, I used a script to rebuild indexes on all tables. This increased the size up to 380Gb. Since then, it has grown to the 800Gb size it is now. I would like to re-run the version deleting SQL again, but wanted to be sure that I treat the Indexes correctly. My question is, can I remove all the indexes that seemed to add to much to the size?

Glen,
Did you add those indexes to the main MR2012 Database ?
One way you can start from fresh, would be to export all the report, column, row & tree defintions from your current MR release.. Install the latest build of MR 2012 CU16 and import all the defs.. Of course you'll have to redo all the security in MR to grant access to the user, so take a screenshot of the settings before removing the old one (I'd suggest to keep to old until you're completely done and sure the new build is OK for you).
You're going also to lose all historical reports that have been generated over the time in MR... but there is nothing you can do to keep them, unless you export all the version as an Excel copy to store it somewhere.. My experience in this field has been that most companies don't really care about the historical versions of the reports, as long as they can reproduce them at will and export them as Excel copies..
Hi Beat,
Thank you for the response. We just upgraded from GP 2010 to GP 2015, but have not upgraded MR for the 3 years I have been here. MR 2012 version is: 2.1.7044.43.
I will take a look again for the script you mention. The one I found previously did not take into account the reporting folder structure we had created, so I had to adapt my own that works, but is not mature and it worries me a bit.
For the indexes, yes, I believe that I accidentally added another set of indexes, but don't know how to tell what should and should not be removed?
Thank you,
Glen
Hi Glen,
I'm trying to understand where the issue is... did you add another set of indexes that dind't exist in the original database of MR 2012 ?
800GB seems excessively huge.. I've never heard of such a large MR DB.. how long have you been using MR & how many reports are generated daily.. ?
If you search in this forum, there is a thread somewhere that was posted with the copy of a script that takes care of cleaning up the MR DB by leaving x-number of report generations in the DB..
Which CU version of MR 2012 are in ?
