GP disappear after logon & select company

Does anybody encounter this weird GP logon problem? I just not sure why, 2 of the computers are having the same problem. That is, right after logon to GP then select one company, and then GP disappeared immediately.

And the Dynamics.exe process is also 'not' running and not showing in the Task Manager.

Can anybody suggest what could be the reason of its disappearing after GP logon.

And please advise the possible way to solve -- other I may have to remove and re-install GP.

GP 10 SP2, Windows XP professional.

Many thanks in advance.

Reinstalling will fix this as well, as you get a fresh Dex.ini.  If you go into Named Printers again on that computer, that will most likely break it again.

    Thank you so much, Victoria.

BTW, I have already reinstalled the GP before I read your reply. :P

    William,

It sounds like you may be experiencing the same issue Ian had here: https://community.dynamics.com/forums/p/35693/62505.aspx#62505.  Can you try removing the Named Printers lines from the dex.ini file and seeing if that fixes it?

Many thank to Richard reply. BTW, the acces permission of the network drive has read and write access. It is hard for us to troubleshoot what have been done by the IT guy -- and fellow may not tell us truth of what has been done is in a proper way. Anyway, I think I would just uninstall GP and reinstall again.

And thank you so much to all people in this community.

IM would not cause this.  Like you said, it is not running.

You said you could browse the network drive.  Try using Notepad to create a file and save it in the same folder with the Reports.Dic.  All you are trying to accomplish is to save a file to the drive.  The user needs more than just Browse rights, they need full read/write access to the folder with the reports.dic file.  Make sure not to damage your reports.dic file.  Name the test file something like TEST.TXT.  If it is saved properly and can be reopened in Notepad, try to delete TEST.TXT.  If all of these tests pass, you probably have correct rights.

Best option may be to use Add/Remove programs and delete GP from the workstation and reinstall it.  If you are not comfortable performing the workstation install, call your partner for support.

    Many Thanks for your reply.

I think this is not related to 2 monitors, because whenever the GP is disappear, the Dynamics.exe process is not showing in the Task Manager also.

BTW, after GP disappeared and then re-run and re-logon GP again, the system will prompted to delete the user, it is due to last logon session is still recognised by GP, but the computer do not show the GP window.

Please advise. Thank you so much.

Re: Re: GP disappear after logon & select company

FYI, the affected computer is running direct cable connection to the GP/SQL server and they do not access GP via Remote Desktop/Terminal server or Citrix. The only customisation is placed in REPORTS.DIC in the server, and I have checked the Dynamics.set in pointed to a networked mapped drive and I tried to browse (Windows Explorer) the drive without problem.

Then logon GP using 'sa' user name, and the same problem happen -- GP disappear after select company.

I can see the computer has Integration Manager installed, I not sure if it is the cause of the problem. BTW, the Integration Manager is not runnning when he logon to GP. How can Integration Manager will auto run it and affecting GP execution ?

For your information, when the GP disappeared automatically, then I check the Task Manager, the Dynamics.exe is "not" appear also.

Please advise and many thanks in advance.

Re: GP disappear after logon & select company

I once had a client with this problem.  He had been working with two monitors and the extra monitor had died.  However, GP (and other tasks) remembered being far off to the right on the second monitor.

If this is your case, go to the video setup and turn off the second monitor support or hit Control-M and the left arrow to bring the image back.

    Just one thought!

Re: GP disappear after logon & select company

Is this a local client or are they going through a terminal server or Citrix?  How about any customizations you might have in place? Is it specific to these 2 users or the machines?  Can someone else log onto GP from these machines without the application disappearing? Like SA?   If it is just these 2 user's clients, you could run a test and copy the GP directory from a working client to the bad client and see if that might fix it.

It sounds like an issue I saw a few times in a Citrix environment running Integration Manager standard adapters.  Integration Manager will hide the GP client while it is doing it's routine and then display it again after it was done.  The issue I saw was where there was an error and it never showed the GP screen again, but it was running Dynamics.exe.  We had to kill the task and log in again.
