Equipment Failure, Need to Transfer Database

Hello:

I have a client who uses Microsoft RMS and recently had a laptop die. The information on the laptop hard drive is still there and accessible. I need to get the database transferred over to the new machine. What I need to know is what files and how many should I be looking for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am sure I left out loads of information, so if there is more info that you need, please ask and I will do my best to get it.

Thank You!

This is what I did and it worked just fine, Create a new database and name it excactly like the one in the hard drive. Then copy the XXXXXX_Data.mdf and XXXXXX_Log.ldf files located on Microsoft SQL Server>MSSQL.2>MSSQL>DATA from the hard drive and replace the files on the new dabase in the same folder. This worked fine for me.

It can be done without a bck.  Files need to be recovered and re-attached.  If you would like to have 1 of our people look at it, send in inquiry into:  http://www.syssolutionsllc.com/

     Thanks for the response Dave!

From what I can tell, the only backup (.bkp) I am finding is from 2005. So that woun't help. I am able to see what I think is the most recent working database for the RMS. Is it possible to transfer that over to the new machine or are there too many dependent files?

    Chris,

Assuming client has been backing up the database, you will need:

    • Install RMS (correct version) on a new machine
    • Restore the bck file from the backup
    • Install any POS device drivers / configure on the new machine
    • Test
