All of our payroll is in Illinois. I have an employee who will be working in  New York. How do I set up payroll for a 2nd state in GP?      I see I can code the  employee in the card to a state,  is that all I need to do?     

Does all of the wages need to be allocated to one state for one employee?  What if that employee works in more than one state?  Can GP Allocate wages to two different states for one employee?

    Hi Joan, yes GP can do this!

    You are correct, go to Cards | Payroll | State tax and add the state needed for the Employee.
    I would also go to Cards | Payroll Tax and towards the bottom enter the default state tax, probably NY in this example.

    Typically you are taxed where you work.  Lets say I worked 20 hours in NY and 20 hours in IL.

    You would have 2 transactions for your employee in the batch, 20 on each line and then in the detail trx you can change the state, so you have one line for NY and one line for IL.  If you import, you would need to make sure the import takes care of this piece.
