Getting our CRM environment mobile-friendly -- where to begin?

Posted on by

We have years of development built into our On Prem CRM 365 environment, and how we're looking to make it available through the mobile app.  Are there any tech notes or tutorials that could help? None of our customizations were built with mobile in mind, and with some rather extensive customizations I'm not sure how this will all work.  I'd appreciate any advise on where to begin or what to look at first.

Thanks.

    Good recommendation by Wayne.

Upgrade to D365 On-Premise v9 (expected in next few weeks)...

Going forward all investments by MSFT is in Unified Interface only (and not classic forms)...which will look similar in mobile / desktop...

So better to use that as the starting point to make your UI customizations compatible.

Agree with Wayne, Install & configure mobile app and see how your crm looks or if you need any changes. It is possible that you don't need any change and your CRM works as expected :)

First question, do you have plan on upgrading to D365/v9?  The mobile app model is dramatically different than 2018/v8. So if you have plans to do that (either online, or the upcoming on-premises release), I'd say wait until you update.

After that, my second recommendation is to install the mobile app and log into your system.  See what works, what doesn't, and what use-cases you want to have for mobile.  Do you need contact and activity management?  Do you want your full suite of customizations supported on mobile?

Also, look at Business Process Flows and Task Flows as alternatives to your existing customizations. V9 gives you more there, and are both mobile-friendly.  Task flows in particular are nice shortcuts to data entry needs you might have on mobile.
