GP 2010 and HP Universal Print Driver

Posted on by 75,730

I have a cleint on GP 2010 who is trying to print payables checks and instead of purchasing Mekorma to print checks they want to simply embed a signature on the check(Stud Tp/Bottom Graphical).  They have an HP P3015 printer usng the HP Universal Print Driver. Whenever they print a check locally  the signature is all garbled. If I print via Citrix using their HP driver the signature prints fine. I have tried lowering the resolution of the iamge but it makes no difference. Any clues as to haow to get this to print correctly?

What was really strange about this was I was called into to change the signature. So I took a gif file that was the same resolution as the one that was there and replaced it. Now the question was why after the change the checks with the new signature came out garbled while the original checks were fine going to the same printer through the same printer driver?

This is not a GP problem as you know Richard. GP uses whatever print driver that is installed on the OS. GP does not store or change any printer settings it simply utilizes them from Windows.

I am trying to talk their IT staff into putting a more specific driver onto these workstation. I am getting resistance because they claim this is a GP problem and has nothing to do with their network. I have found that the new W7 computers using the PCL 6 drivers work just fine. So hopefully I can talk them into dumping the older W-XP computers.

Does it matter if you use PCL or PS?  What if they used the specific driver for the printer instead of the all-in-one?
