inactive contacts on static marketing lists

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We have a static marketing list (Let's call it List X) that we use for a number of purposes. Over time we have deactivated a number of contacts who were on the List X. However, when we send messages to List X, the system still sends messages to the deactivated inactive contacts.

Interestingly, when you search List X using the  search function the names don't appear (because they are inactive) but when you scroll manually they are still there. Aside from deleting all of them manually, any thoughts or suggestions?

RE: inactive contacts on static marketing lists

    Hi Wendy,

The search filter when you search for list members might exclude inactive members, but the fact that a contact is deactivated does not mean that the list member is off the list.

Inside you list, in the list member area, show the associated member view, and select the view for Inactive Contacts for that list. If those members still show up there, that would be your answer.

They have to be physically removed from the list, not just deactivated as contacts.

    Hope this helps.
