MES Production Parameters, How to setup optimally in case if there is a single operation

Hello Experts,

This is what explained on technet site, for MES production parameters.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa570152.aspx

  • Start - Parameters that are used when production operations are started.

  • Operations - Parameters that are applied to production operations and feedback on operations during the production process.

  • Report as finished - Parameters that are applied when items are reported as finished on the last operation of a production order.

In my case I have a single operation (and job) which I would continue to RAF partially multiple times.

Say 100 Pcs, I may report as finish four times, 25 pieces at once and it is only when I RAF last 25 pieces I would like to end mark 'Route' and 'Picking'.

I already tested that I cannot keep 'End mark route (and picking)' as checked on RAF tab, as it will close route and picking during 1st RAF itself.

Is there a way to achieve the scenario explained above as I am little confused with parameters under 'operations' tab and 'RAF' tab?

Thank you in advance.

Regards

-Rahul

If you are not bothered about capacity planning i.e. not finite scheduling then for a simple route you could just not bother and replace it with a service item on your BOM  or maybe one for the work centre and one for the labour.

This is not an option for me.

Parameters are a default, the user has to select when it is different, so if you part RAF you at some point have to tell the system when it is finished. You cannot end mark because your majority of posts are not the end, but when you come to post the end one you have to tell AX it is the end one.

Yes, I had expected that 'End mark Route' and 'End mark Picking' would only be considered when I RAF the job using 'Completed' option from the MES but that's not the case and  instead they being considered even if we try to RAF the job using 'Inprogress' or 'Feedback' option. However 'End job' parameter gets considered only when we use the 'Completed' option to report the feedback and same was expected for 'End mark route' and 'End mark picking list'. For now I have left the both of these (End mark route and End mark Picking list) as unchecked and just kept the 'End job' (under RAF tab, MES parameters) as checked and it seems to be working for me.

See https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa497003.aspx which elaborates what Steven said

If you need the production cost for each RAF at that point then you might have to split order each quantity.

Unless you really need the financial cost at the sales line at the time of shipping the sales line, then depending on your Inventory Model (FIFO, Std, etc.) the inventory close and recalculation will adjust the cost of your sales line once the production order is ended and split is not necessary. This is the "normal" AX way - allow financial negative stock, and run inventory re-calc/close monthly and don't select End job until it really is End job.

If you do partial RAF then you may also do partial picks in which case this post will be useful to review https://stoneridgesoftware.com/how-to-process-a-partial-pick-list-in-production-from-dynamics-ax/.

    Hi Magic,

    Thank you for sharing this.

I am referring to MES Production order parameters which is different than production order parameters. MES parameters are used when we use job card terminal or job card device to report the feedback.
