Once an opportunity is closed, does CRM provide features to manage the project development behind that order?

Hello,

We are selling products that then have to be developed according to customers needs. No single sold product will be the same as another. Therefore, once the opportunity is closed, the development of the sold system starts. After that, I was asked how/where to track activities to a specific entity that will allow them to follow activities related to the development of that product.

I'm pretty sure that CRM is not aimed to do that and that you will probably answer me that they should use a project management solution.

Could you provide me any information about this issue I have, as I don't really know what to answer to my responsible about this topic?

Best regards

    Hi Sn1b,

In CRM out of the box perspective, does not have project management solution, but there are some third parties selling the solutions. And out of the box CRM has Activities for other entities.

In XRM Perspective, you can build a custom entity: project development, after Opportunity closed then create a new development record then using the OOB Activities, you can track the activities of the entities.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks.

    Hi Sn1b,

Your requirements looks like specific to your company needs and vanilla CRM does not have the facility to support the post-opportunity management as out-of-box.

    Option 1:

Usually, there will be a back office systems like Dynamics AX or GP integrated with CRM to handle the post opportunity stages and synchronize the invoice back to CRM once it’s generated on the back office system.

In addition to track activities in developing the products, you could track items used to develop the product (BOM), supply chain management, freight management, sales order, and so no in the back end system.

You could check with AX or GP forums about your post-opportunity management requirements and integrate with CRM.

    Option 2:

In case you don’t have the back office system or 3rd party application with require features you could consider building new modules within CRM and use the CRM activities to track the product development as Aileen Gusni mentioned.

    Happy CRM!
