GP Fails to Launch

I have a client with one workstation that was working fine yesterday but will not launch GP today.  Email and other tasks are working correctly.  Other users are working fine.  When GP is launched, the splash screen starts and Dynamics.exe hangs in the task manager.  We never see the option to login.

I checked the virus protection and it is NOT Symantic.  Any ideas?  Oh yes, the user can login fine at another workstation.

The Reports.DIC had been changed yesterday late but I replaced that with a backup and it made no difference.  No other dictionary file had recent dates.

Yes they are properly logged into the network.

Sigh.......

    Richard,

Do you see more than one Dynamics.exe in task manager?  You can end task the other. You may also want to restart that machine.  If you still encounter the error, you can check the event viewer or get the DEXSQL.Log.

Forget the back up dictionary, go in and let it launch and create a new dictionary. If you let GP launch withou a dictionary where it is supposed to be it will create a new dictionary.  See if it will launch then.

Also, look at the properties of your launch and make sure it is something like below:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2010\Dynamics.exe" Dynamics.set

or copy from another machine and launch.

Thanks but I did those (should have listed it in the original post)  What we ended up doing was a system restore (once the hardware guy got there) and re-synced GP  Thanks for the suggestions

    Richard,

In case this comes up again...

This sounds similar to issues I have seen cause by activating Named Printers. If you're going to do a restore anyway, certainly worth a try first to remove any lines referencing Named Printers in the Dex.ini file (that's any lines starting with "ST_") to see if that fixes it.
