For example, I can only run an inventory report as of today but not as of 12/31/12. Is there a way around this or is the functionality simply not available?

You need to run the Historical Inventory Stock Status
Reports->Inventory->Analysis->Historical Stock Status

Thank you for your response. This gave the count as of that date, but is there any way to actually get a list of the specific items and their serial numbers?
For example, the report brought back 3 units as of 12/31. Is there a way to see which units they were and not just the general number?
That report is not designed to show that infiormation. You need to create a report using SSRS or some other tool to look at the IV30400 table and link to other tables. I would think this report may have alrady been written. What say others about this report?
