Non Inventory Items and Serial Numbers

Hello,

Just wondering if it's possible to track the serial/lots numbers of non-inventory items?  Or does an Item ID need to be created for that item?

Thank you

Rita

Out of the box, there is no way to track these (in 2013 there is!).   Depending on where you enter the trx, there are some ways to handle them.   In Sales Order Processing in the Sales Transaction Entry User-Defined button, there are some text fields where this can be entered.   Also, notes will work or are sometimes used, but more difficult to report on.  Where are you using them?

I meant to add, Extender is another way of tracking them to a document number.

    Thank you Dan.

I didn't think there was, but can you briefly explain how it would work in 2013? (I may postpone my go live until we upgrade.  But I don't like to upgrade until the first sp comes out.  :-)   )

We are selling communications equipment and want to handle it as noninventory because we don't stock it.  Not to mention, there are way too many items to list.  We are using SalesPad with GP.  Maybe they have a solution.

    Thank you for your assistance!

I would check with SalesPad.  I know they have the capability of many user defined fields.   With regard to 2013, it was s/n functionality around drop ships which I assume is what you are dealing with.   We have a communications customer also, and we have them set up as using inventory and have suggested to do lots instead of s/n.   Made things easier to receive, extra fields (lot categories), and the ability to reuse lot numbers.

WilloWare has this feature in GP PowerPack - Non-Tracked Item Serial/Lot Entry.  In SOP, you can add Lots & Serials for non-inventory items, and for drop-ships.
