Create entity "Project" to be parent for some opportunities

Hi,

I am looking for guidance on how to create an entity called "Project" that will have some fields "Start Date", "Complete Date" "Estimated Value", Status, etc.  It would also have multiple opportunities associated.  When on an opportunitey you would be able to optionally select a parent "Project" and on the Project you would see a list of Opportunities.  This would look similare to Accounts and Contacts where you see multiple contacts on an account and you see the account on the contact.

Thanks,

Chris

    Hi msnchris,

You can start by creating a lookup field on Opportunity referencing the Project entity. It will create a relationship and on the Project entity top navigation you will be able to see the linked opprtunities.

    Hi msnchris

The contact and account in CRM relationship concept is by adding a lookup field each other.

So basically you need to create two relationship, each many to 1 relationship, from opportunity to Project as Parent Project and also in Project add as Main Opportunity lookup field.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

    Hi MSNChris,

You can create standard entity like account and contact and name it }"Project", where you can setup fields like start date etc, after that you need to setup relationship between your entity and opportunity entity. As you want to have one project related with multiple opportunity so you need to setup 1:n relationship between project and opportunity.

Once your entity is created you can go to opportunity entity and can create a lookup field there where you can select your project entity, which will setup 1:N relationship between these two entities.

After that you can add sub grid over project entity and select data source to show only related data for the opportunities.

You can refer: www.crmsoftwareblog.com/.../working-with-subgrids-in-microsoft-dynamics-crm-2013  for subgrid.

    MSNChris,

Did you figure this out?  I want to do the same thing.  It is frustrating that Dynamics does not have a "Project" entity built in.  I want to do the same thing and I think others would want to as well.  I would like to get, and post detailed instructions (and I mean really detailed, as to exactly how to do this) so that others can benefit from this.

    Thanks,

    Sheltowee
