Login failed for sa while launching GP10

New install of GP10, starting GP (after running GP Utilities successfully - I had to change the ODBC to Integrated Windows Authentication, as the default sa loging didn't work), I get the same error as reported elsewhere on this forum.  ODBC is set up for Native Client.  The ODBC entry for "Dynamics GP" is configured for Integrated Windows Authentication.  When I change it to "with SQL Server authentication" the defaul Login ID is "SYSTEM."   If I change it to SA/mypassword, I still get the login error.  I don't know where "SYSTEM" and....what to try next.  Anyone?

Thanks.

As of now, windows authentication is on the wish list. See the Windows Authentication portion of this article from David. So you are on the right track switching to SQL Server Authentication.

I noticed you capitalized "SA" in your post. I've had problems when I do that logging into GP.

How about the other details on the ODBC wizard? As a general rule all options are unmarked and there should be no default database specified. What server name did you specify? Did you change it into an ip address?

Let me know further details and I may be able to help you out.

Thanks for the guidance.  First I'm concerned that I was able to run the Utility ONLY after I change the ODBC to Windows Authentication.  No password was needed to start and run the utility which created the SQL tables and initial Company.  Now, if I am able to switch back to SQL authentication, will the SQL table permissions be set wrong?

I do use "sa" in lower case at all times (except in writing this post :-)

ODBC System DSN for "Dynamics GP" is pointing to my SQL Server (tables created there OK)

Connect to SQL Server to obtain default settings is CHECKED
If I change the radio box to With SQL Server authentication... the Login ID is set to SYSTEM.  What password would be used, or do I change this to 'sa' and use the DYNSA password (which is logical and I tried that but it isn't working either - Connection failed SQL State 28000, server error 18456).

    Thanks

When a new ODBC entry is created it is defaulted to Windows Authentication mode and will pick up the currently logged on user. When you switch the authentication mode to SQL, this default user will persist. This is not necessarily the correct entry.

You need to change that user to 'sa', and then enter the appropriate password. If the password is correct, I don't see any reason for you not able to proceed by clicking the Next button.

If you are able to get past that make sure all options are unmarked for the next two pages and do a "Test Data Source" at the window that pops up after the last page of the wizard.

Let us know how it goes.

As for the utilities being able to create the table through Windows Authentication (you shouldn't be able to do that), were you presented with any logon screen? If so, what user and password did you enter?

18456 state 28000 is a logon failure indicating that you may have inputted the wrong password. If your windows user has the proper rights in SQL you can run SQL Enterprise Manager and login using windows authentication mode and change the 'sa' password from there.

Setting ODBC to "With Integrated Windows Authentication" I can log into GP Utilities.

The signing screen shows Login ID "sa" and I just press OK with no (blank) password.  That is how I got in to run the company setup.

When I try to change to ODBC to use With SQL... it does not accept a password for sa.

In the SQL Security -> User settings for DYNAMICS database, there is no entry for user "sa."

The tables created are set to dbo.* as the owner.

Did running the Utility without correct authentication create "bad" table security?

     Thanks.

First of all you are right about Dynamics Utillities allowing Windows Authentication. I tried it out of curiosity and it worked. However if you try to use this connection for GP itself it will tell you "You're attempting to log in from a data source using trusted connection. Update the SQL Server settings for this data source to disable trusted connections and try logging in again".

When you said it did not accept the password did you mean that the password field was disabled? Or you entered a password and you got a login error?

The table owner really should be 'dbo' and 'sa' really does not have any entry in the database itself but in the global logins, so it looks like your created DBs are fine.

The answer is the latter - sa and password fields are enabled.  With "Connect to SQL to obtain default settings..." checked, entered the password and Next will try to log into the SQL server.  I entered the sa for the SQL server that we created when SQL was install, and it was accepted.  I don't know why I but I kept wanting to enter the DYNSA password that was used in the GP Utility setup.  It looks like I'm in GP10.0 now!  YEA.

if DYNAMICS database is not existing in your SQL, you can perform GP utilities. the system will create DYNAMICS and TWO [afterwards] during GP utilities. have you done this before? I assume this is a new install.
