Items which are packed in multiple cartons - how to manage Units of Measure

We have a number of large items which are packed in 2 or 3 cartons. This is not a BOM but one product when assembled so there is only one item code. How can you store multiple boxes accurately in Business Central for the Unit of Measure Each?

Of course I could make a new UOM called BOX1, BOX2 but the UOM Each is used in many places in the system. I can also add the real volumes together and fudge the dimensions but when passing this data to shippers this is obviously not good

Any help appreciated

To clarify, this is a single Item that has been disassembled for shipping purposes.  You need to ship the various sections to a site to be assembled.

I would not use the Item Unit of Measure for this, since it is still a single Item, just in various pieces.  This is likely going to require a customization to your system (likely on the Sales Order or Job) to record number of boxes the Item has been shipped in.

Another approach would be to build each section as an Item.  Then you can ship each Item in its own Box.  Then you would have a final "Assembly Order" or "Job/Project" to consume the sections when the final Item is assembled.

I would reach out to your partner to discuss this requirement in more detail.

if you want to manage the large item as one item, you still need to set up it as a single item in BC in spite of the facts the one piece consists of several boxes.
If you want to manage manage the boxes of pieces, then you could set up the individual parts as individual items, then you create an assembly bom to represent the parts.

if you want to handles different parts in different boxes, you use license plate which could include different items hand handles those as a single item, but you need to add the license plate function to BC.
