Cloud Hosted DEV Environment Auto-shutdown & Auto-restart

Hi,

we deployed the new cloud hosted DEV environment. Now that the environment usage is priced hourly, we need to control the environment operating time.

Seems like we can auto-shutdown the VM from azure portal, but is it possible to set auto-restart as well? How to set this up?

For example, we want to start the environment only during working hours from 9.30AM to 8.30PM from Monday to Friday. While we set auto-shutdown on 8.30PM, we want to auto-restart the environment the next morning on 9.30AM.

Thank you.

You can do it using Azure Automation Account. It requires some work to set up initially, but after that you can easily add new startup schedules for new VMs.

Here's one blog about it: sharegate.com/.../how-to-start-stop-virtual-machines-with-azure-automation

Another option is the new "Tasks (Preview)" functionality in the VM settings. You can use it to auto-startup, but to me it seems that there's no option to run it only on weekdays.

    Hi HAIRUL,

For the Start and Stop operation, Azure has built in solution that you need to add and configure.

    See document:docs.microsoft.com/.../automation-solution-vm-management-config

To add the solution, you need to create an Automation Account, then from the Automation Account menu click on Start/Stop VM.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Hairul,

Also, you can use DevOps pipelines to start\stop VMs

    Thank you Sergei,

this seems like the easiest option. Also, it's free.
