Im getting a problem at a customer site whereby different items are coming up at the Point-of-sale screen, when another item is scanned. Items can be any random item at any time of the day.

It can also cause the POS to freak out and shut down.
Hello Jerry,
Thank you for your imput. Store Operations 2.0 does however prevent using alias numbers that are already another item's item lookup code.
It is possible to have duplicate item numbers however, but again, this would be found by checking the item number of the item that came up in the scan, and comparing it to the item that you were actually scanning.
I disagree. It is possible that you have duplicates in either the item table, alias table, or both tables. I don't believe that rms stops you from entering a barcode as an alias if it is use already as an itemcode. I suggest running dupe checks across both tables.

Sometimes this issue is the result of deleted items in the database. When an item is no longer there and you go to scan an item, it will go to the next nearest number.
The other possibility is that the barcode is getting scanned only partially, such as the item is turned, which could be leading to an inaccurate read. This is the less likely case, but a possibility.
If this happens, check the item number that it actually scanned and compare it to the one you were trying to scan. It is close? Does it have any same number series? etc. This will help give you some idea of the problem that is occuring.
Yes the barcodes are scanned correctly into notepad. The customer is using Microsoft RMS 2.0.
All that you have said was already done. The scanner company, Honeywell, said that its a software issue.
I would scan the item in notepad several time to make sure that the scanner is consistanly picking up the whole barcode. also to make sure that the scanner is properly configurated. depending on how they setup their data you may need to set the scanner to leave out the first or last digit. Also make sure they have the focus in the right place when they do scan. It could be user error, especially if they have a touchscreen taskpad with items on it. you may want to see if you can load the opos drivers for the scanner and configure it as a device. If you have not already.
