Sort Code vs Zone Code

Using the advice included in this linK:

I implemented the Sort Code in an AX2012R3 and got the desired results, but to make it work, I had to delete the Zone Codes (used only as a description) on the Location Set-Up. Which set-up could cause this lack of operation?
